Another day, another reboot.
If you're not familiar with the original, it starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Billy Baldwin and Oliver Platt as medical students exploring near death on the examination table until the consequences began to jeopardize their lives.
In the reboot, those students are played by Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons and while he's notably absent from the trailer, Sutherland is signed on to appear as the same character he played in the 1990 film so it looks like we're dealing with a strange sequel/reboot hybrid here (requel?).
The producers of the original film, Laurence Mark and Michael Douglas, are also on board with a script from 'Source Code' writer Ben Ripley and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' director Niels Arden Oplev at the helm.
Here's the official synopsis:
In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience - giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.
'Flatliners' is set for release in Irish cinemas on September 29th.
