We get our first look at Ridley Scott's take on the biblical tale of Moses today as the first trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings hit the internet. And apart from getting back into his ancient history boots, it looks like Scott has blown the budget on visual effects and everything else. The cost of eye make-up alone was probably astronomical.
Starring Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Pharaoh Ramses, Exodus: Gods and Kings tells the story of 'the defiant leader Moses as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.'
Possibly taking a cue from Darren Aronofsky's Noah, Scott appears to have favoured good old fashioned visuals for us to feast on over plot line, probably in an attempt to distract from all the God-like plagues and miracles and distance the film from the God squad, although sometimes it does looks a bit much (hello Sigourney Weaver's ridiculous Egyptian look). Hopefully a cast with such strong players as Bale, Edgerton and Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul will hold it together and stop it from running away into 300 territory.
Exodus: Gods and Kings is set for release on December 26th.
