Fresh off an Oscar win last year for her stunning performance in La La Land, Emma Stone might just get another Oscar nod for this year’s Battle of the Sexes.
The sports dramedy is directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks) and sees Stone play professional tennis player Billie Jean King. She faces off Bobby Riggs, played by Steve Carell, in an epic tennis match in 1973.
In a clip released by EW today, we get a sneak peek of the new film and see Stone’s character battling for equal pay. It would seem that while the film is set in the past, it is touching on issues that are not too far from home.
In the clip, King and her business partner Gladys Heldman (played by Sarah Silverman) confront the tennis association’s head honcho, Jack Kramer (Bill Pullman), to ask why the women’s prize money is only one-eighth the amount of the men’s winnings.
