With his proposed Alien sequel no longer on the cards, Neill Blomkamp has been keeping himself busy with a new experimental filmmaking venture.
Oats Studios as their website says makes 'experimental short films' and a teaser for their debut, helmed by Blomkamp has just surfaced online.
Well then, that certainly is intriguing. Neither Blomkamp or Oats Studios has provided a cast list for the short but we at least spotted Dakota Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Sigourney Weaver and what appears to be a digitally de-aged Michael Biehn. Blomkamp seemed to get the ball rolling on this experimental project back in April when he tweeted asking if fans would be willing to purchase experimental short films on Steam as "tests for potential full feature films.&rdquo

He obviously liked the response he got on Twitter because it wasn't long before he was sharing stills and teases for Volume One.

There's no word yet on when Volume One will be released and how soon after that we'd have to wait for any other potential volumes but it seems pretty clear that Blomkamp is banking on getting significant fan support online before shopping his projects in Hollywood. Which is pretty much how he kickstarted his career after all. District 9 started life as a short film remember.
Is anyone else longing for Blomkamp's Alien 5 after watching that teaser?
