The first trailer for Terry Gilliam’s 20-year passion project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has been unveiled and it’s just as bonkers as you’d expect from the former Month Python troupe member and director of Brazil.
Jonathon Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean, Game of Thrones) and Adam Driver (Star Wars, Girls) play the leads with Pryce in the role of a man who is convinced he is the real Don Quixote. Driver plays an advertising exec who Pryce’s character believes to be his squire, Sancho Panza.
The two embark on an epic adventure which sees them traverse a world which combines the 17th and 21st centuries. Olga Kurylenko and Stellan Skarsgård co-star.
The film first went into production 18 years ago but was plagued by “development hell”. Gilliam has tried to get the movie made eight times. Originally, the movie starred Jean Rochefort (who died last year) and Johnny Depp, and has over the years been delayed due to injuries, flooding and locations mishaps.
The movie will reportedly debut at Cannes in May.
