Jaysus, what happened to just smiling, nodding and congratulating others in your field on their success? Nope, this guy would rather tell us how he really feels. Successful director of photography Christopher Doyle, known for his work on Magic Mike and Heroes, has just gone mental over Claudio Miranda's Life of Pi Oscar win last month. He's not a bit happy that its cinematographer took home the gong for best cinematography, 'cause he doesn't see Life of Pi as an example of cinematography at all, given how much the film had been doctered in post production. Now, whether he has a point or not is irrelevant; this just oozes unprofessionalism. You don't publicly diss the hell out of someone doing well in the same field as you, or do you?
Here's what he said to BlouinArtinfo:
"I'm trying to work out how to say this most politely, and no offence to - I don't know him (Miranda) personally - but what a total f**king piece of s**t... I'm sure he's a wonderful guy and I'm sure he cares so much, but since 97% of the film is not under his control, what the f**k are you talking about cinematography... I think it's a f**king insult to cinematography.
I'm sure he's a wonderful person, I'm sure he cares so much. But what it says to the real world is it's all about us, we have the money, we put the money in, and we control the image. And I say f**k you, w**kers. Are you f**king kidding? That's not cinematography. That's control of the image by the powers that be, by the people that want to control the whole system because they're all accounts. You've lost cinema. This is not cinema and it's not cinematography. It's not cinematography."
