If you're unfamiliar with the term first-person shooter (FPS for short), here's a quick explainer.
Doom? Call of Duty? Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64, back in the day? They're first-person shooters and they're extremely popular with gamers.
In fact, some reasonably respectable actors have been appearing in voice roles for some of them. Kevin Spacey stars in the just-released Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Ellen Page turned up in Beyond: Two Souls and Susan Sarandon had a voice role in Dishonored.
Video-game producers are increasingly taking their cues from film by casting actors and drafting screenwriters to develop stories and scripts for their games.
Now, however, videogames and movies have come full-circle.
Timur Bekambetov wants to make the world's first FPS movie. That's right - an entire film shot from the first-person perspective you'd see in videogames.
He's teaming up with a guy caled Illya Naishuller who made the very famous 'Bad Motherf***er' video. Here's that one to refresh your memory.
A three-minute trailer for the film, entitled Hardcore, went online at Indiegogo, starring District 9's Sharlto Copley. Don't watch it if you're afraid of heights or if you get motion sickness.
Initial thoughts? Everyone said Cloverfield was a daft idea - an entire film shot on POV of a monster attack in New York. Yet, somehow, it totally worked. Same for last year's End of Watch, which was a surprise hit - both critically and commercially - so it shows the concept works.
Likewise, Timur Bekambetov's penchat for batshit action has worked well in the past with Wanted and these self-aware action movies - for example, Crank - tend to do quite well.
The trailer itself looks insane - but can it be stretched out to an entire film? We're not so sure.
