The Fast & Furious franchise is one of the world's most successful film franchises and has grossed over $2 billion in box-office returns. Over the course of six films, Fast & Furious has revolutionised action films and become one of the most recognisable film franchises.

For fans of speed and action alike, Fast & Furious has no competition.

Beginning in 2001 with Rob Cohen's The Fast and Furious, the first film introduced Vin Diesel and Paul Walker's characters to the world, as well as being the first film to look at underground racing. Dominic Toretto (Diesel) is an auto mechanic with a profitable sideline in street racing and stealing semi-trucks on the Californian highways. When he meets undercover LAPD officer Brian O'Conner (Walker), the two form a bond that will last many years.

The second entry, 2 Fast 2 Furious, was released in 2003. Following the previous film, Brian is now living on the fringes of the law as a street racer. When captured by the FBI, he's given an ultimatum - help take down Carter Verone, a drug lord based in Miami, or face jail for his crimes. With the help of his childhood friend, Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), they infiltrates Verone's gang as professional drivers.

2006's Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift saw the franchise go international. Set primarily in Japan, it tells the story of Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) who's exiled to Japan following a serious car crash in the States. In Japan, he meets a fellow American (rapper Bow Wow) who introduces him to the world of drift-racing. When Sean challenges the reigning drift champion, he's given a little help from an old friend of Dominic Torretto.

The fourth entry in 2009, titled Fast & Furious, revitalised the franchise and brought Vin Diesel and Paul Walker back together. Five years after Dominc and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) left Los Angeles, the crew are working in the Dominican Republic doing what they do best - hijacking semi-trucks. When the police get too close, Dominic flees and leaves his crew behind to save them. Meanwhile, Brian is back with the FBI hunting a heroin dealer who's using street racers to run heroin over the US-Mexican border. When Dominic is forced to return to the US to avenge the death of a close one, his path crosses with Brian and the two are forced to join up.

Fast Five in 2011 saw a complete re-imagining of the series. Now that Brian has resigned from the FBI and Dominic's escaped prison, the crew are holed up in Rio de Janeiro. When the crew stumble upon a drug kingpin's $100 million fortune, the best way to set themselves up for life is to steal it. There's just one problem - government bounty hunter / DSS Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is standing in their way. Using their driving skills and cunning, they plan to steal the money and make a clean getaway.

Fast & Furious 6 sees the team forced into helping DSS Agent Hobbs to take down an international crime syndicate headed by Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). When it's revealed that Shaw has Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) working for him, Dominic and the crew agree to Hobbs' terms. However, Shaw and his band of mercenaries are more dangerous and ruthless than anticipated.

This year's entry, Fast & Furious 7, sees Jason Statham join the franchise as Deckard Shaw, the older brother of Luke Evans' character. Out for vengeance against the crewfollowing his defeat in Fast & Furious Six, Deckard Shaw chases the team across the globe, from the States to Dubai and promises to be the most explosive entry to the franchise so far.
