Although it wasn't a huge box-office smash and it wasn't exactly critically acclaimed either, some people have a soft spot for Vin Diesel's early '00s actioner xXx - enough, it seems, for there to be two sequels and Vin Diesel to cough up the cash to purchase the rights to the franchise while he's at it.
Per a statement given to media yesterday, a fourth film will begin filming in December with DJ Caruso - who directed the third film in the series - returning to helm the fourth installment. As of now, there's no word on plot (hah) or who'll be returning, but what's interesting is that a fourth film is likely to be aimed squarely at the Chinese film market, as pointed out by one of the producers in the announcing statement.
The other interesting part of a fourth xXx movie is that it could very well see our own Conor McGregor show up in the role originally planned for him in the third film. McGregor was lined up to play villain Hawk, but soon dropped out to focus on his training for UFC. McGregor's character was eventually replaced by Michael Bisping. Given how McGregor isn't exactly up to much these days beyond hurting vehicles, turning up in an action movie might just be the ticket for him.
No release date has been confirmed for xXx 4.
