Video game series 'Uncharted' has been trying to make it to the big screen for about a decade now. At last it starts shooting in a matter of weeks.

The 'Uncharted' games have often been compared to the standard of action adventure movies. But the road to Hollywood has been treachorous.

A movie adaptation based on the video game has been in the works since 2008.

No less than six directors (including Dan Trechtenberg ['10 Cloverfield Lane'] and 'Bumblebee' director Travis Knight) have been attached and subsequently detached from the project.

In fact its final director has yet to be announced. However it's likely that Ruben Fleischer ('Venom', 'Zombieland: Double Tap') has the gig.

What has been confirmed is Tom Holland will play Nathan Drake while Mark Wahlberg plays Victor "Sully" Sullivan.

Holland recently confirmed that filming starts in four weeks in Berlin and the script takes inspiration from 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End'.

Speaking to IGN on the red carpet for Disney Pixar movie 'Onward', the 'Spider-Man' actor said: "One of my favorite video games ever is the fourth Uncharted game... And lots of inspiration for the film has come from that game in particular...

"When I sat down with [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman, and we were talking about video games and I was like 'I've just finished Uncharted', and he was like 'Well, why don't you play Nathan Drake?' And I remember being like 'I would do anything to play Nathan Drake'..."

Holland added: "Mark Wahlberg is going to be amazing as Sully; the stunt department that we have out there in Berlin have done an amazing job already prepping the stunts. It's gonna be an exciting one.

"There's definitely a lot of inspiration that's come from the games, but it's a very young, fresh take on the character, because obviously we didn't get to meet him all that much when he was younger. But it's a pretty awesome movie, and it's global, we travel the world. We see some amazing places. And Mark Wahlberg and I are gonna have a great summer together."

The 'Uncharted' movie is currently scheduled for a March 5, 2021 release.
