So Britons, it would appear, are Twilight mad. It's just been revealed that by Sky News that the franchise chronicling the trials and tribulations of a bunch of veggie vampires have topped the UK's entertainment charts for 2012. Basically, the ERA have combined the sales of all DVDs, Blu-rays, games and albums into one cumulative chart of what sells most in Britain and it's Twilight that's been most popular.
Making me question their taste as a nation, it's been revealed that the worst one of all - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - topped the chart for the first half of 2012, selling 1.2 million copies. Thankfully though, it trumped the DVD sales of Mrs Brown's Boys series 1. I still find the notion of this show winding up on any of these 'best of' charts quite unfathomable.
Anyhoo it appears that Breaking Dawn Part 1 sold almost double what runner up Now That's What I Call Music 81. Before it's DVD release, Breaking Dawn Part 1 had grossed more than $700m (£442m) at the global box office. Whether the final installment of the franchise will achieve the same success, or whether it will prove more riveting than K-Stew and R-Patz's current real life soap opera, we must wait and see.
