One of the major aspects that we loved about Logan was how the film didn't feel the need to plug itself into a future franchise or make nods and references to beyond the film.
Logan was very much a standalone film and even James Mangold made the point of keeping mention of the X-Men's fate out of the equation so that he'd have more time and breadth for character development. However, for those who have seen Logan, they might have witnessed a little Easter egg that was under their nose all along.
In case you clicked into this by accident, we'll give you a chance to turn away now if you don't want to see spoilers for Logan.

Still here? OK, good.
So, you'll recall how the ending of Logan saw him clutching the hand of Laura as he passed away. Well, as it turns out, James Mangold had planned the ending in his previous effort, The Wolverine. In that film, Logan was teamed up with Yukio, a mutant who had the ability to detect and see when people were going to die.
@mang0ld you had this set up the whole time?!?!?!?!?!?!? pic.twitter.com/ZBuWZbYyF5

In The Wolverine, she predicted that Logan would die, covered in blood and holding his heart in his hand. Most people assumed it had something to do with the blood parasite thing from later on in the film and the Silver Samurai / Yamada, but it was actually much different.
The heart is in Logan's hands was, in fact, Laura / X-23. What's more, director James Mangold had specifically planned it this way and confirmed it on Twitter last night.

Not bad, James Mangold. Not bad at all.
