Burt Reynolds has died at the age of 82, and fans, friends and his peers alike have been paying tribute to the iconic actor on social media.
Most famous for his roles in the likes of 'Deliverance', 'Smokey and the Bandit' and 'Boogie Nights', the Michigan-born actor's career stretched over six decades.
Having suffered from health problems in recent years, he died in a Florida hospital following a cardiac arrest yesterday.
See below for some of the tributes:
Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor - check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family.

RIP Burt Reynolds. Had the pleasure to audition for him for a movie ( I got the part but it never got made) and know him. He was super nice. Very funny. Had charisma off the charts. A real movie star.

R.I.P. Burt Reynolds, underrated as a dramatic actor (Deliverance), underrated as a director (Sharkey's Machine), but also a rare movie star that seemed to be just having an absolute ball onscreen. Nobody broke frame with a bigger gleam in his eye. "Just watch ol' Bandit run." pic.twitter.com/L4NlRyqahb

Just bawled my eyes out watching the beautiful gem #TheLastMovieStar - in honor of the late, great #BurtReynolds. @AdamRifkin - you gave him such an amazing gift with this flick. The scene where he apologizes to Claudia is some of Burt’s career-best acting. See it on @itunes now! pic.twitter.com/dq8qKxoUD8

He was a great ambassador for FSU. Fantastic in Deliverance. Hilarious and charming in...too many to name. And the reason my favorite car of all time is the ‘78 Trans Am. I wanted (still do?) to be that cool. RIP Burt Reynolds. RIP Bandit. pic.twitter.com/4JLFi4u3IO

I finally got to work with one of my heroes in 2006. #BurtReynolds led a really fun cast in Spokane and we laughed all day, every day he was on the set. A wry humor and a warm heart defined this wonderful man. He will be sorely missed. #RIPBurtReynolds pic.twitter.com/6ShGb2w2a6
