The possibility of Danny Boyle directing Bond 25 has just gotten a whole lot greater.
Yesterday, we reported that the Oscar-winning director of such films as Steve Jobs and Slumdog Millionaire has become the frontrunner for directing the upcoming Bond 25.
Now John Hodge, who wrote the screenplay for many of Boyle’s movies including Trainspotting, its sequel T2, Shallow Grave, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, and Trance, is said to be working on a script for the next outing for the superspy.
The rumblings started in Deadline, which tends to have a good ear for this sort of thing, reporting that “Boyle had an idea for a very specific 007 movie, and he and his Trainspotting partner John Hodge have teamed up to work out the beats. Hodge is writing that version and if it all works out, that would be the 007 film that Boyle would helm.”
The report continues: “MGM and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson sparked to Boyle’s idea enough to engage Hodge, who has quietly been writing their version.”
Mind you, a script is already in the works from Casino Royale, Skyfall and Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
It seems to be the case that if Hodge’s script proves impressive, he and Boyle will get the green light. If not, it’s likely that a different director (possibly, as aforementioned, ’71 director Yann Demange) will step in to helm the Purvis and Wade screenplay.
