Also yes, it looks like Beverly Hills Cop 4 is back on with Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley.
According to a report by JoBlo.com from an appearance on Dutch television, two directors - Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah - have been signed on to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4 with a budget of $50,000,000 and are currently trying to lock down either Tom Hardy or Channing Tatum for a role in the film.
This also tracks with IMDb, which has listed Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah as directors and Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum as screenwriters of the just-announced film. According to Adil and Bilall's interview on Dutch television, legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer became interested in them after a screening of their 2015 crime epic, Black.
The directors said that the plot will focus on Foley, now a much more seasoned cop in Beverly Hills who clashes with a hardened police officer from Detroit who does the fish-out-of-water routine that Eddie Murphy did in the first one. So if we're understand this correctly, it's essentially Murphy taking the role of Ronny Cox.
Whether or not Murphy decides to come back for this, however, is the question. Murphy's last widely-released film in the US was last year's Mr. Church, which received lacklustre reviews and never even made it across the Atlantic to Ireland or the UK. Before that, it was the even-poorer A Thousand Words in 2012, which also never made it across the Atlantic.
On top of all that, Murphy's been pretty open about not doing another film simply for a paycheque. In an interview with Playboy in 2015, Murphy was adamant that he wasn't going to do another Beverly Hills Cop film until the script was right. "If we do that movie, it has to be right. Not just thrown together to get a big check. I don’t need anymore of those."
