If you haven't yet read Thandie Newton's awe-inspiring interview on Vulture, strap yourself in and give it maybe twenty-five minutes because it's worth every bit of it.
Newton gets brutally honest and talks about the systemic racism at play in the Hollywood system, the sexism, how she's managed to survive, her little 'black book' of secrets that will no doubt come to light in the future, and much, much more. Yet, one story that's caught people's attention concerns none other than the Cruiser himself, Tom Cruise.
And his ability to manifest a zit in the space of a couple of hours.
Per Newton's reckoning, it takes a normal person in and around a day or two for a blackhead to go from there to a white-head / zit situation. Not for the Cruiser, though. He can do it in the space of a few hours.
How does she know this, then? The two of them starred together in 'Mission: Impossible 2', the aberration in an otherwise fantastic action franchise. If you go back and watch it now, it's hilarious not only how terrible it is, but also with the added fact that both Cruise and Newton knew it was bad then and there. After all, if the only thing Newton recalls it this story, it must be pretty bad.
"I remember at the beginning of the night," Newton explains, "seeing this slight red mark on his nose, and by the end of the night, I kid you not — this is how his metabolism is so fierce — he had a big whitehead where that red dot was. It would take anyone else 48 hours to manifest a zit. I saw it growing, and it was like the zit was me, just getting bigger and bigger."
Really though, read the whole interview because that's only a snippet of the goodness inside.
