Tom Cruise has been increasingly associated with pushing boundaries in his movies thanks to the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise. Now he's going to outer space for his next project.

The dream project is fast becoming a reality. Not only are Elon Musk’s Space X and NASA involved.  The feature also has a director in Doug Liman, who worked with Tom Cruise previously in 'The Edge of Tomorrow' (aka 'Live Die Repeat') and 'American Made'.

The director and actor came up with the idea together. Liman penned the first draft of the screenplay and another producer.

The estimated budget is around $200 million.

Christopher McQuarrie, another Cruise collaborator, will act as story advisor and is also producing.

The writer-director is currently shooting the new 'Mission: Impossible' films with Cruise.

In this latest development, the project has an official launch date next year.

Space Shuttle Almanac confirmed on Twitter that the Axiom Space Station will set off on a tourist mission in October 2021.

Commander Michael Lopez-Alegria will pilot the shuttle with Cruise and Liman on board.

NASA confirmed their involvement in the project earlier this year via this tweet from NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine.

Universal will distribute the feature, which currently does not have a title.
