Tom Cruise is in talks to star in Bourne Identity and Swingers director Doug Liman's sci-fi war thriller We Are Mortals, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor is currently shooting Jack Reacher book adaptation, One Shot, with Christopher McQuarrie, and is increasingly busy with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol also due for release in a couple of months. 'Mortals' is apparently a cross between Groundhog Day and Halo, which means the same thing happens every day and there are aliens involved. It's supposed to be very battle orientated, with Cruise hardly winding down the action roles ala George Clooney as he gets older.
Brad Pitt was reportedly offered the role, but had to turn it down because of scheduling conflicts.
