I’d think this was a send up if it hadn’t been confirmed by the trades; The Mask and The Scorpion King director Chuck Russell is to helm a big screen adaptation of the 80’s TV series, TJ Hooker. The original starred William Shatner as a no-nonsense cop who liked to jump over the bonnet of cars in slow motion, and really wasn’t very good. Apparently this version will be an "action comedy" and focus on the relationship between a rookie cop, and his veteran father - an obvious chance for The Shat to make an appearance. So, it’s hardly of Star Trek quality, but it looks like Shatner has still managed to get his mug in with another franchise. Let’s just hope Russell goes firmly for the piss-take angle, as well as delivering on the action front, otherwise this could be embarrassing for everyone involved (except The Shat, obviously, as he is immune to such things).
