Colin Farrell stars in the upcoming Prime Video movie 'Thirteen Lives', which is based on the famous 2018 Tham Luang rescue.
In June and July 2018, twelve members of a Thai junior football team and their coach ended up trapped in Thailand's Tham Luang Nang Non cave. A monsoon forced heavy rainfall into the cave system, flooding the area and blocking the group's exit.
The group remained trapped for weeks in an air pocket, which attracted attention from all over the world. An international team of rescue divers were assembled and eventually they were able to be freed after 18 days.
The film, directed by Ron Howard, will follow the story of how the rescue team managed to free the group safely.
Farrell stars as John Volanthen, one of the leading crew on the rescue mission. Volanthen, an IT consultant from the UK, has been involved in cave exploration and rescue for over two decades.
Starring alongside Farrell is Viggo Mortensen as Rick Stanton and Joel Edgerton as Harry Harris. Both were also key figures on the rescue crew. Sahajak ‘Poo’ Boonthanakit portrays Governor Narongsak, who headed the rescue operation. Teeradon ‘James’ Supapunpinyo plays Ekkaphon Chanthawong, the team’s assistant coach.
The film was previously slated for a November 18 release. However, the MGM film, now under the Amazon umbrella releases on August 5 on Prime Video.
