Lisbeth Salander is one of the most hotly contested roles in Hollywood at the moment and after meeting with dozens of actresses it looks like Sony have found the right fit.
According to Variety, the studio want The Crown's Claire Foy to take over the role from Rooney Mara in the sequel to David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
While no deal has been signed just yet, an offer is expected to be made to Foy soon. The only potential stumbling block to a deal being done is the fact that she is also meeting with La La Land's Damien Chazelle about a role in his next film, First Man. That movie is a Neil Armstrong biopic with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
Should Foy agree to play Salander, she will be following in the footsteps of Noomi Rapace (who played Salander in the Swedish original) and Rooney Mara, who brought the character to life for David Fincher's English language remake. The new film will be an adaptation of The Girl in The Spider's Web.
The film will be directed by Don't Breathe's Fede Alvarez and co-written by Steven Knight (of Peak Blinders and Taboo fame) and Jay Basu.
