This could be very interesting – it may just be the bromance you never knew you wanted.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to direct and star in a musical comedy for Universal, according to Variety.
Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum are already attached to star in the R-rated film, currently titled Wingmen. Gordon-Levitt and 21 Jump Street writer Michael Bacall reportedly pitched the idea in 2016, starting a heated bidding war among several studios. Universal landed the pitch.
Variety reports: “The story follows two pilots who crash-land in Las Vegas. According to sources, the film is in the vein of “Pitch Perfect” meets “Book of Mormon,” with the dup covering Top 100 hits with a touch of adult humour.”
Joseph previously directed Don Juan, which he also starred in. Tatum got his feet wet for musical numbers when he starred in Hail, Caesar!
The two were previously up for co-starring in another musical, a remake of Marlon Brando starrer-Guys and Dolls. This was announced four years ago so obviously plans for it fell through.
Still given the hype surrounding La La Land and the continued success with Beauty and the Beast, it’s clear that the musical is well and truly back so fingers crossed this one goes ahead.
