Videogame adaptations are becoming more and more popular as both Assassin's Creed and Warcraft draw closer to their release date.
It's no surprise, really. Comic-books have been effectively mined for any and all material whilst YA novels are so hit-and-miss that it's impossible to tell what does well. Videogames, until now it seems, have been a dicey business for studios to get involved with.
Why? Lots of reasons. We'll do a feature on it as some stage. Anyway, with the aforementioned Assassin's Creed / Warcraft looking pretty damn good, studios are beginning to ramp up production on videogame adaptations.
One that's been ripe for adaptation has been Sonic The Hedgehog, which has a pretty star-studded history to it. Michael Jackson, for example, worked on the soundtrack for Sonic & Knuckles. Read all about that over here. However, today, it's been announced that Sega and Sony Pictures have joined forces for a CGI / live-action hybrid film to be released in 2018.
It's early days yet, but it's a bit odd trying to make a hybrid out of Sonic The Hedgehog. You'd think it'd be the sort of thing that would be purely CGI, however there's obviously some method to the madness. As to who'll be working on it is anyone's guess. Sony are also working on the Angry Birds film and have Jon Vitti, late of The Simpsons and The Critic, turning in the screenplay.
Like a lot of things, the right people behind this will determine if it works. But, for the meantime, let's get Green Hill Zone stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
