Northern Ireland's turmoil has been the subject of several classic films, including most recently '71 with Jack O'Connell and most famously, In The Name Of The Father with Daniel Day-Lewis.

However, a new film charting the life and times of Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness is currently gearing up for production with veteran actor Timothy Spall in advanced talks to play the role of Ian Paisley.

The English actor, who most recently starred in Oscar-nominated biopic drama Mr. Turner, will bring to life the controversial political leader who died in September of last year.

The Journey, as the film is known, will follow Paisley and Martin McGuinness's life and career from political and ideological enemies to working together in Stormont.

No director has been attached as of yet, however it's understood Kenneth Branagh and Liam Neeson were tipped at one point to take a role in the film.

There's been no word yet on who'll play Martin McGuinness, however it's understood an announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

The film is produced by the team behind 2011's Killing Bono.
