The 'Thrilla in Manilla' is set to be dramatised on the big screen.
For non boxing fans, the 'Thrilla in Manilla' is considered to be Muhammad Ali's greatest fight (or second greatest if you prefer The Rumble in the Jungle, it's definitely in his top two anyways). The bout was a World Heavyweight Championship title fight between reigning champion Ali, and challenger (and former champion) Joe Fraizer. The two men had already fought twice before with both winning a match each, so the 'Thrilla' was billed as the definitive fight between the two.
Ang Lee is attached to direct the movie and plans to shoot it in 3D, to bring the viewers inside the ring. While there is no cast officially attached as of yet it is rumoured that David Oyelowo (Selma) is Lee's first choice to play Fraizer. There' s no word yet on who could play Ali.
This is certainly an exciting prospect as the fight had one of the most dramatic conclusions to a Heavyweight Title fight in boxing history. Also the 3D element would be something special as anyone who saw Lee's Life of Pi will know that he uses the medium beautifully.
