The official synopsis for 'The Suicide Squad', directed by James Gunn, is now live.
As previously confirmed, the film has been described as a reboot/relaunch. It's unrelated to the 2016 'Suicide Squad' movie from David Ayer.
At the same time, some familiar faces will be back. Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.
Joining them are Idris Elba as Robert DuBois / Bloodsport and John Cena as Peacemaker. Peter Capaldi plays the supervillain Thinker and Sylvester Stallone has an undisclosed role.
Other cast members include Alice Braga, Pete Davidson (as Blackguard), Michael Rooker (as Savant), and Taika Waititi; as well as David Dastmalchian, Nathan Fillion, Storm Reid, Daniela Melchior (as Ratcatcher 2), Steve Agee, and Sean Gunn; and also Joaquín Cosío, Juan Diego Botto, Julio Ruiz, Flula Borg (as Javelin), Tinashe Kajese, Mayling Ng, Jennifer Holland, and John Ostrander.
So yeah, that's quite an ensemble.
And there's an explosive official synopsis to match.
Released by Warner Bros., it reads: "Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X.
"Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."
It continues: "Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement.
"And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."
'The Suicide Squad' will premiere in cinemas and on HBO Max on August 6th.
