Frank Miller's (Sin City) latest directorial effort The Spirit has been garnering scathing early reviews before its US opening on Christmas Day. The fanboys of Aintitcool.com have not been kind in their early appraisals of the flick, with one making a hyperbolic "this is the worst film I've ever seen" statement. Others have just uttered a collective "meh", but crucially these are all user reviews as the film has to be screened for American scribes. Christmas this year is a hugely competitive time at the American box-office as Adam Sandler (Bedtime Stories), Leonardo DiCaprio (Revolutionary Road), Tom Cruise (Valkyrie), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Jennifer Aniston (Marley and Me) all have films opening on the same day. This means that more than likely one or more will tank, and it's looking increasingly like The Spirit. Eva Mendes, Samuel L Jackson and Scarlett Johansson star in the flick which is shot ala Sin City.
