Both 'The Raid' and 'The Raid 2' were revolutionary pieces of action cinema, put Iko Uwais and Singaporean cinema on the map, and made Gareth Evans into one of the most hotly-anticipated directors working today.
While 'The Raid 2' ended on something of an closed note, there had been talk for some time about the possibility of a third movie for some time. However, director Gareth Evans has pretty much nipped all of that in the bud in a recent interview with CinemaBlend.
"I had a full idea," Evans explained. "I know what the storyline would have been. But I think enough time has passed now that I think I’m not likely to go back and revisit it. We had a lot of fun making those films, and I think we came to a nice, sort of natural conclusion with it. And I think sometimes you can have a little bit too much of a good thing."
It makes a lot of sense, to be fair. Sequels can only do so much before it becomes tired and rote, and what made 'The Raid' and 'The Raid 2' so special was that there really hadn't been anything quite like either of them in a long time. More than that, Iko Uwais is now moving on to Hollywood movies like 'Mile 22' and the upcoming action-comedy with Dave Bautista, 'Stuber', which is due out next year.
Gareth Evans, meanwhile, has the Netflix horror 'Apostle' which arrives on the streaming service on October 12th.
