Although they haven't yet been cast, THR by way of Collider is now reporting that Matt Reeves' take on 'The Batman' will see Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader take on The Penguin and Catwoman.
The two characters previously appeared on screen in 'Batman Returns', directed by Tim Burton in 1992. In that movie, Danny DeVito starred as The Penguin whilst Michelle Pfeiffer famously took on the role of Catwoman. In fact, just recently Michelle Pfeiffer proved that she still knows how to crack the same whip from 'Batman Returns'.
The two characters have been regular fixtures in Batman lore. In the '60s, Burgess Meredith - who'd go on to star in the 'Rocky' series - played Penguin, whilst various actors such as Eartha Kitt and Julie Newmar played Catwoman. More recently, Anne Hathaway took on the role in 'The Dark Knight Rises' for Christopher Nolan's iteration of the character.
As you can imagine, no casting has been announced as of yet for either character. Josh Gad has been campaigning for the role of Penguin, but nothing official has come forward yet. Names such as Mackenzie Davis from 'Blade Runner 2049' and our own Saoirse Ronan have been mentioned for Catwoman. In short, it's still a long way to go before any castings are announced.
'The Batman' is slated for release on June 25th, 2021.
