Harry Styles turned down the role but now 'The Little Mermaid' has at last found its Prince Eric.
Up-and-coming British actor Jonah Hauer-King is set to take on the role in the live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid'. This will mark his biggest role to date but the 24-year-old actor has also had some notable TV roles including playing Laurie in the BBC's 'Little Women' miniseries in 2017 and most recently he starred as Harry in the BBC's WWII drama 'World on Fire'.
Jonah Hauer-King will co-star alongside Halle Bailey as Ariel while the cast also includes Melissa McCarthy as the witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, 13-year-old 'Room' star Jacob Tremblay voices Flounder, 'Crazy Rich Asians' actress Awkwafina is playing Scuttle and Broadway's 'Hamilton' star Daveed Diggs has been cast as Sebastian the crab.
'The Little Mermaid' remake will be directed by 'Mary Poppins Returns'' Rob Marshall while Lin-Manuel Miranda is working with composer Alan Menken on some new songs for the movie's soundtrack.
Production has yet to begin on 'The Little Mermaid' so the release date is still a good while off. We'll keep you posted.
