Another 'The Hunger Games' movie is on the way, based on events before the renowned books and film adaptations.
The feature will be, like its predecessors, based on a book by Suzanne Collins.
Titled 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes', it explores the origins of her dystopian society. The novel is set to be released May 19, 2020, published by Scholastic.
Collins' book series, consisting of 'The Hunger Games,' 'Catching Fire' and 'Mockingjay', sold millions of copies all over the world.
They were adapted into four ('Mockingjay' being split into two parts) hit movies for Lionsgate.
Starring Jennifer Lawrence as the heroine Katniss Everdeen, they made almost $3 billion at the box office altogether.
"Lionsgate has always been the cinematic home of 'The Hunger Games,' and I’m delighted to be returning to them with this new book," Collins said in a statement.
"From the beginning, they have treated the source material with great respect, honoring the thematic and narrative elements of the story, and assembling an incredible team both in front of and behind the camera.
"It’s such a pleasure to be reuniting with [producer] Nina [Jacobson], [director] Francis [Lawrence] and [screenwriter] Michael [Arndt] to adapt the novel to the screen, and having them share their remarkable talents, once again, with the world of Panem."
Francis Lawrence directed the latter three movies of the series.
No release date has been set and casting has not begun.
