The highest paid actresses for this year have been revealed with Scarlett Johansson coming out on top. She earned $40.5m in the period of June 1st 2017 to June 1st 2018.
Johansson’s spot can be accredited to her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She played the role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, which has been the highest grossing film of the year so far, and will reprise the part in the film’s second part, which is out next year.
Emma Stone earned the top spot on last year’s highest paid actresses list – which, remarkably, didn’t even feature Johansson – but didn’t make it into this year’s top ten. Charlize Theron and Emma Watson are also noticeable dropouts from this year’s countdown.
After Johansson, Angelina Jolie had the second highest earnings for an actress over the last year. Her $28m is based on her contract for Disney’s live-action sequel ‘Maleficent II.’ The movie began shooting in May and has a scheduled release date of May 2020.
Jennifer Aniston came in third place with $19.5m. According to Forbes, which generated the list, this is less to do with her acting earnings than with endorsements for brands such as Emirates, SmartWater and Aveeno.
The figures are just a tad depressing when compared to the top earning actors of the year – George Clooney at $239 million (though this was thanks to the $700 million sale of Casamigos Tequila, rather than earnings from acting) and Dwayne Johnson at $124 million.
The top ten highest paid actresses of the last year and their earnings are as follows:
1. Scarlett Johansson $40.5m
2. Angelina Jolie $28m
3. Jennifer Aniston $19.5m
4. Jennifer Lawrence $18m
5. Reese Witherspoon $16.5m
6. Mila Kunis $16m
7. Julia Roberts $13m
8. Cate Blanchett $12.5m
9. Melissa McCarthy $12m
10. Gal Gadot $10m
