Paul Schrader is best known to movie fans as the dark genius behind the script for 'Taxi Driver', 'Raging Bull' and the director of this year's critically-acclaimed and utterly doom-laden drama about a suicidal Calvinist priest, 'First Reformed'.
Schrader's work has been marked by having deep psychological undertones with examinations of masculinity, self-destruction, violence, narcissism and sex. Movies like 'Hardcore' and 'American Gigolo' have dealt with the underbelly of American life, whilst his scripts for 'The Mosquito Coast' and 'City Hall' have dealt with complex issues such as corruption in the political sphere and the breakdown of the nuclear family.
He is also a huge Taylor Swift fan.
The world’s gone mad and nothing surprises me anymore. Except, it turns out, reading Paul Schrader’s thoughts on Taylor Swift. pic.twitter.com/WvKCK59dDC

The acclaimed director posted a selfie on his Facebook this week, saying that he had crossed attending a Taylor Swift concert off his bucket list, describing Swift's live performance as "a show business machine operating at a maximum efficiency." Naturally enough, the selfie went viral with Edgar Wright even posting it on his Facebook page.
Schrader, for his part, is pretty damn serious about his love for Swift, and described her in an interview with Polygon as "the closest thing we have to the godhead in this country. We only live by her good graces. She is the essence of the life force. She’s keeping us together. If Taylor were to leave us, everything would fall apart."
Again, this is the guy who wrote 'Raging Bull' and 'Taxi Driver' - and he's talking about Taylor Swift.
Welp, whatever you into.
