Both The Raid and its sequel, The Raid 2: Berendal featured some of the most explosive action sequences we've seen in years.

The director, Gareth Evans, managed to make these films on a much smaller budget than most dramas - never mind action films - are made with, so it's long been a source of mystery as to why he hasn't been courted to a major production and given a mainstream budget.

Many believed that following The Raid 2, Evans would be off to direct some huge franchise or the like - but it appears that he's gone in a completely different altogether. It's been reported by THR that Evans' next film will be a period thriller about a mysterious cult on a remote island.

Did someone say The Wicker Man? No, according to Evans' own Instagram (which is where most major film announcements are made nowadays), the film will be called Apostle.

According to THR's report, the film concerns a religious cult who are holding a man's sister on a remote island in exchange for a ransom. However, as the man begins to investigate the reasons for the cult and the commune on the island, more sinister information comes to light.

So, yeah, The Wicker Man - which is no bad thing at all, to be honest. It's one of the finest British horrors ever made, so a little sprucing of the general story is definitely worth a look. No release date or other information was made available, but given the success of The Raid, it seems unlikely that Evans would have to look hard for people to work with.
