Two of this summer's blockbusters 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'The Avengers Assemble' hit box office milestones over the weekend.
Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Rises, the third and final film in the trilogy hit the $1 billion mark making it the 13th movie in film history to reach that number and thus making it the most popular Batman movie to date. The movie which stars Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway made another $5.8 million over the weekend bringing it $431.2 million in America and $574 million internationally.
The comic book block buster by Marvel, The Avengers, has just been re-released in America and made another $1.6 million since taking it to $619 million and pushing it into the $1.5 billion mark, breaking box office records. The Avengers is only the third film ever to break this record and is the first film that hasnt been directed by James Cameron to make the top three. James Cameron's Titanic and Avatar are the only other two films that have surpassed the $2 billion mark.
Despite claiming recently that the movie is not a 'perfect movie', director Joss Whedon is on board to make the sequel which is due for release in 2015.
