During the fall of The Weinstein Company, several movies were feared lost when the indie studio / distributor went into the ground.
Among them was 'The Current War', which followed the so-called "war of the currents" between George Westinghouse, Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. In this adaptation on the story, Michael Shannon plays Westinghouse whilst Edison is played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Nikola Tesla is played by Nicholas Hoult.
Or, if you only see things in comic-book movie terms, it's General Zod, Doctor Strange and The Beast.
Just to even add to the ubiquity of comic-book movies, Tom Holland from 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' is in there as well, and you've also got Katherine Waterston, late of 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them'. That's not a comic-book, but you get the idea. It's almost like actors do franchise movies just so they can star in indie thrillers about the birth of electricity. Wild.
Anyway, 'The Current War' is finally get releasing after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival all of two years ago, and is set for an Irish release on July 26th, with a snazzy new trailer to back it up.
