The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is upping the game following the first in the series with news that the sequel will include four villains; shock, horror. Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have had to publicly defend their decision to create such a big baddies cast as critics labelled it 'overkill'.
The characters in question - The Rhino, Electro, Harry and Norman Osborn - will certainly up the ante for Spider-Man but their inclusion also begs the question, 'are they all present in the one film just so director Marc Webb can include as many famous cast members as possible?' Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Lady in the Water) has been confirmed for the role of Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich - aka The Rhino - while Jamie Foxx will play Electro. Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Shailene Woodley, Felicity Jones and BJ Novak will also star in the upcoming superhero movie.
While details of the plot have yet to be released, the basic outline of the plot is known: once again, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) continues to deal with his split personalities of both Peter and Spider-Man while trying to maintain his relationship with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) and school life.
