Ok so they're turtles, but they can walk and talk, and they know ninjitsu.

We know comic books characters don't have to make sense, but surely even this was a bit too far "out there" when the franchise was created in the mid-eighties. Fast forward 30 odd years, and the four green teenage martial artists have come in at no.1 in the box office in their opening weekend, raking in just under $94 million in the process, $65 million of which came from the U.S. alone.

Not too shabby for everyone's favourite little green men considering they had to hold off competition from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, they've done so well that Paramount Studios have already ordered another installment of the Michael Bay produced action.

Knee-jerk decision or not, they've even announced the sequel's date, June 3rd 2016.

If you haven't seen it yet, here's the trailer.
