Yikes. We thought we were only to take Taylor Swift seriously when she was yodelling about shitty ex boyfriends (all... 396 of them?) or having fun with her rent-a-crowd 22 year old pals. We knew not to take her seriously when she had a small, forgettable role as Taylor Lautner's girlfriend in Valentine's Day. But what do we do when she lands a role opposite an actress who could not possibly get any more major? We lose the will to live. Well, OK, maybe not as dramatic as that but still, can't popstars just stick to their popstar business? PS the super famous actress is Meryl Streep. Yep. Oh and Jeff Bridges stars too.

Set in a futuristic utopian society, The Giver centres on one person who possesses the ability to remember every aspect of the human race's turbulent past, should it ever become vital for them to use it. As for Taylor's role? Given how teeny tiny her back catalogue is, we're hoping it's a small one. Swift will take onthe role of Rosemary, the last adolescent to be mentored by Jeff Bridges' leading man before he comes in contact with his successor.
On the contrary, though, there is the small possibility that she might blow us all away with her thespian abilities?
Streep plays the villainous Chief Elder, which is exciting enough to brush Taylor's appearance under the rug.
