Apparently too much audience screaming is a bad thing.
The scary movie genre is a broad one. It can go from superb box office hits like 'Halloween', right through to the not-so-scary but still enjoyable to watch.
But if it's just downright terrifying you want, then look no further than the new horror starring Orange is the New Black's Taylor Schilling. 'The Prodigy' has scared test audiences so much that parts of it have been re-edited according to the director.
"The first time we previewed the movie, there is a section where people screamed so loud that we had to go back and re-edit the scene that followed it, because people were still recovering from what they had just seen, and they were missing the dialogue,” Nicholas McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly. Hook it to our veins.
The Prodigy is written by screenwriter Jeff Buhler whose credits also include Bradley Cooper's 'The Midnight Meat Train' and the upcoming 'Pet Sematary' remake.
“Four years ago, I was sent a script for this movie,” says McCarthy. “For the first half, I was thinking, ‘Wow, this is a really interesting, and creepy, and twisted variation on the evil kid subgenre.’ But then the script just went to this place that I couldn’t believe. That’s what made me go from, ‘Here’s a movie I think might be cool’ to, ‘Here’s a movie that’s gotta be made.'”
Despite the Halloween themes, 'The Prodigy' doesn't hit cinemas until February, 2019. We can't wait for this one.
