He hasn't worked on a film since 2012's Oscar-winning biopic Lincoln, but it now looks like Spielberg has set himself up for not one, but two films to keep himself occupied. It's been announced that the multi-award winning director will take on the classic Roald Dahl children's novel, The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) with a script written by the woman who wrote ET, Melissa Mathison.
Spielberg's Dreamworks Studios have said that the film is due to be released some time in 2016 with production scheduled to begin in 2015. This means that Spielberg can get another, smaller film into production before then. Apparently, that film will be the as-yet-unnamed Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks.
Initial thoughts? If anyone can handle adapting children's novels, it's Spielberg. Tintin was a great little film and really captured the spirit of the original books, so we're guessing he'll bring that same level of care and attention to Roald Dahl's books. That being said, the idea of him doing another Cold War thriller ala Munich with Tom Hanks sounds way cooler. We're more excited for that one, being honest.
