There are some roles that cannot be recast because you just couldn't imagine anyone else in that role.T
You could think of anyone but Sigourney Weaver playing Lt. Ellen Ripley the same way there's nobody but Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the Terminator. It's the same with Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford; the two are so intrinsically linked that it's virtually impossible to think of anyone else in the fedora and leather jacket.
Thankfully, Steven Spielberg feels the same way and made his thoughts known on the subject in a recent interview. "I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy. I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman. There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones, and that’s Harrison Ford."
That's good to hear, especially on foot of those rumours we've been hearing that Chris Pratt will be replacing Harrison Ford in the iconic role. Although Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy have hinted at a fifth Indiana Jones, there's been nothing concrete on the topic for quite some time.
On the part of Harrison Ford, he's still game for a laugh when it comes to Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. saying that he's more than up for returning to the role. The real question, of course, is whether or not we want another Indiana Jones.
After the bitterly disappointing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it looked like that was all she wrote for Indiana Jones, but since the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney, there's been a renewed interest in the archaeologist.
You might say... it was EXHUMED. Because archaeology. No? Nothing?
Whatever.
