The life and career of Tupac Shakur is well-documented and known, and it's no surprise that many have tried to get a feature-length film out of it for quite some time.
As well as this year's biopic All Eyez On Me, it's now been confirmed that Steve McQueen, director of the Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave, is set to make a feature-length documentary on Tupac Shakur. What's interesting as well is that the documentary has the full blessing and support of the Tupac Shakur estate, something previous efforts never had.
McQueen commented on the news to Deadline, saying that he was "extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist," and wants to "tell the unvarnished story of this talented man."
As well as the estate's blessing, it's also been confirmed that Interscope Records and UMG have agreed to support the film as well, meaning most - if not all - of Tupac's recordings can be featured in the finished film. There's no word yet on a release date or production start, but expect to see this film as a serious contender for Best Documentary Oscar on release.
