For Disney / Lucasfilm, Star Wars is now the only game in town.
As you'd expect, commitments have been made to both fans and investors that they'll deliver on the announced titles from Star Wars Celebration and more.
With The Force Awakens' principal photography wrapped and the post-production process nearing completion, it looks like JJ Abrams and his team are eyeing up locations for Episode VIII.
Skellig Michael, which will feature heavily in The Force Awakens, is being scouted again for use by Lucasfilm. However, it's understood the UNESCO Heritage Site is currently being investigated by Lucasfilm for use in Rian Johnson's sequel to The Force Awakens.
According to a report in the Irish Times, it's understood that a production team for Disney / Lucasfilm visited the site several weeks ago whilst the Irish Film Board is refusing to confirm or deny that it's in negotiations with Lucasfilm for its use.
The production on Skellig Michael for The Force Awakens turned the rural island into a pilgrimage for Star Wars fans, eager to catch a glimpse of the shooting. Indeed, it's expected that Skellig Michael will be billed on its connection to the film in the future.
There's been some speculation as to what the significance of Skellig Michael is in the Star Wars franchise. Some suggestions have include the monastic island doubling for Dagobah, the planet from The Empire Strikes Back where Luke Skywalker received his training from Yoda.
Others believe it's some sort of natural energy field that Skywalker is defending from the Empire.
Even some believe that Skellig Michael was seen in the trailer. Remember that shot of the X-Wings flying over water? Skellig Michael, apparently.
In any case, Ireland and Skellig Michael hasn't seen the last of Star Wars.
