Two pieces of news recently emerged regarding Universal’s remake of Al Pacino starrer Scarface.
Firstly, it looks like director Antione Fuqua has dropped out of the project. Fuqua is due to direct The Equaliser 2 with Denzel Washington, and it would seem the project was going to clash with the Scarface remake schedule.
So while the gangster flick is looking for a new director, it would seem the movie may have found its star in none other than Diego Luna of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame.
Luna is also known for his roles in The Terminal, Milk and Elysium.
Variety broke the news, and it reports that the film will be will be a modern-day reimagining of Brian De Palma’s 1983 film, focusing on a Mexican immigrant instead of a Cuban one and taking place in LA rather than Miami.
The De Palma film is itself a remake of the 1932 classic starring Paul Muni.
Production for the new film was meant to start this spring but will likely be delayed while Universal look for a new director.
