When a series of films pulls in well over $3 billion worldwide, you can pretty much bet yer arse they’ll flog that horse to death. That horse, dear reader, is Shrek.
Speaking to The Fox Business Network, Dreamworks Animation head honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg, spewed, "We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest, but I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he."
That’s one of those things were they try to make it like the character wants to come back. The characters doesn’t actually care, Jeff. He’s computer generated and doesn’t exist.
The return of Shrek probably has a lot more to do with how crowded the animation market place is getting; in the past 12 months alone there have been 3 huge animated movies - Despicable Me 2, Frozen and The LEGO Movie. None of those came from Dreamworks, and all have touched, or will get close to a billion dollar gross, so they’re bringing out a heavy hitter.
If it does happen, here’s hoping they involve the right kind of creative talent.
