Well that's one name we can scratch off the list of hopefuls. Danny Boyle has officially ruled out replacing Sam Mendes on Bond 24. Being such a reputable director, it's no wonder that the Trance director has been so often linked to the job ever since Mendes made it clear that he would not be returning. While it would seem like the dream job to most, in reality this is far from what tickles Boyle's fancy; he's much more concerned with lower budget films. Why? Because they allow him far more creative control than a movie dominated heavily by a studio ever would.

Speaking to The Playlist, Boyle said: "No, I much prefer to have a ceiling... A ceiling that is limiting us and you try and break through. We want our films to look like $100 million, that's for sure. And we want them to sound like $200 million... But you try and do that with that cap on them. And that's where the energy, belief and evangelical nature of the process comes from."

He continued to discuss his experience with directing the Olympics, comparing it to his version of a Bond flick: "Because of the Bond thing in the Olympics, I visited the [Skyfall] set a few times and saw Sam [Mendes], Barbara Broccoli, Michael Wilson and Daniel Craig and everybody... They're different kinds of films. They're huge. They're just huge. They wouldn't get the best out of me, doing that sort of thing."

So that's it folks, back to the drawing board!
