Simon Pegg will co-write and act in Star Trek 3

Simon Pegg will help write as well as co-star in the next Star Trek film, as Fast and Furious 3-6 director Justin Lin takes over directing duties from a now intergalactic JJ Abrams.

Pegg has of course penned films before, including Paul, At World's End and Hot Fuzz, but this will be the English actors first blockbuster as a scribe.

As well as reprising his role of Scotty, Pegg will team with Doug Jung, creator of cable series Dark Blue, for the third film in the rebooted franchise.

All of the main cast are expected to return, including leading men Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.
