Shaun of the Dead will always be up there as one of the great horror comedies, and certainly as the best zom-rom-com ever made.

However, it's always been one of those films that's been plagued with rumours of a sequel for many years - but now, at last, Simon Pegg is ready to beat them over the head with a cricket bat once and for all. In an interview with EW, Pegg explained that all of the sequel rumours were ultimately "pub talk."

"I jokingly wrote a treatment for From Dusk Till Shaun, which was a sequel to Shaun of the Dead... it was all about Shaun and Ed having to go up to Edinburgh, or something. I don’t know. It was ridiculous. And it was a joke. It wasn’t like a serious pitch. Edgar thought it would be funny to do the film again, but with vampires."

Edgar Wright, meanwhile, dobbed the idea even down further and explained that if he, Pegg and Frost did reunite, "it would be something new, that’s not part of the existing kind of trilogy. It’s really about writing something that we want to do, rather than it seeming like we ought to do something, do you know what I mean? The three movies we made all come from different points of passion. It’s finding what that is and again chaining ourselves to the office to write it."

Considering that Edgar Wright's Baby Driver was a critical and commercial success and Simon Pegg's off hanging out with Tom Cruise on the reg, it's no surprise that a Shaun Of The Dead sequel is unlikely to happen - primarily because everyone's grown up and moved on.

Still, we'll always have the Winchester.
