In what was more of a Christmas release date than a Halloween appropriate one, 'Scream' first hit cinemas on released on December 20, 1996.
It may seem an unusual movie but it turned out to be the right one, as 'Scream' would end up grossing $173 million against its $15 million budget.
The film is now a cult classic and has spawned several sequels, and a TV series of the same name.
For years it was the highest-grossing slasher film ever 2018's 'Halloween' wound up beating it.
Ironically, the Neve Campbell-led series could reclaim the title when the movie series' fifth installment - also called 'Scream' - arrives in cinemas on January 14, 2022.
The sequel will see original stars Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox all back in their respective roles of Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers.
Ahead of its premiere, we're testing how well you remember the original.
